Well, I just finished my 3rd workout in 4 days with Penfold, and I’m sore all over. (Just to be clear, by “workout” I mean an exercise session at California Wow).
Because of my work and Penfold’s social life the workout locations have varied; Friday at Ratchayothin, Saturday at Ekkamai and today in Ratchada. The next workout should be in Asok.
I’m sore because we had a three-week break between sessions, and the three week break was also caused by my being sore all over.
Why was I sore?
Well, there are a lot of ways that you can end up sore… I don’t plan to tell you any details about what happened to me, but I will say that one of the scariest things that can happen in Bangkok is to fly off the back of a motorcycle without a helmet on.
About three weeks ago I found myself lying on a table in the hospital chatting with the doctor while she sewed my scalp back to gether and put stitches in my arm. I also managed to break a rib and get some really serious bruises. One of the bruises was a rainbow of blacks, purples, blues, greens and yellows with a knot underneath about the size of a mobile phone. I also turned my right ear into a turnip.

I wasn’t moving too well there for a while. I spent a lot of time in bed trying not to move at all. It hurt to use the remote control.
My face was a mess of scratches, and I had to put on makeup when I eventually got back to work. The scars are still visible, but fading fast.
So, whether from injury or exercise, I’ve been sore since the end of January.
The gash on my arm has faded to a red scratch, the one on my head is healing and the bruises are fading. The broken rib barely bothers me during our gym sessions.
I’m hoping to be back to normal — or close to it — within a week or two.
One of the benefits of all this is that I went to the optometrist and bought some contact lenses because it hurt too much to wear eyeglasses for a while. I hadn’t worn contacts for nearly 15 years, and I’m finding them to be a pleasant change of pace.
Anyway, the workout regime is back in full swing… two hour sessions every two days for three months in an effort to change the pudding around my middle and the stringy muscles in my arms into something much more solid. Hopefully it’ll pay off.

Why no details about what happened? You tell us everything else.
Glad you’re not dead. Speaking of hospitals, what happened to the nurse you were halfheartedly pursuing?

I don’t tell you everything….
Saw the nurse on Thursday. She went out of town this weekend. I had hopes of seeing her today (Monday) but no luck.
The pursuit is very low level and unlikely to result in any real success, but it continues. Honest to God she covers her mouth and giggles at damn near everything I say. It’s both endearingly cute and unspeakably irritating. But she’s pretty and very very sexy in her nurse uniform.

Glad to see you are in one piece, even if the pieces are just held together by stitches.

Jeez, WW be careful out there! Please tell me this was an accident and is NOT part of a fiendishly complicated plot to score with a proffesional in the Thai health care industry.
Take it easy now and get well soon.

I wonder why he won’t tell us. There mus be some kind of secret here. Maybe it wasn’t even a motorcycle. Perhaps he fell of the back of a tandem bicycle when YP made a sharp turn towards a gaggle of ladyboys.

Glad to hear you’re alright.
2 hour sessions every 2 days are a little OTT for a newbie IMO. You should cut back to an hour and increase the intensity during it.

Finchy … you forget that 1 hour of the workout is a sauna with YP.

WW, I work in a hospital here and motorcycle accidents are the biggest risk of injury. I’ve seen lives absolutely destroyed by motorbike accidents – it just isn’t worth the risk. I know I’ll probably get flamed but I tell every friend coming out that they should NEVER take a motorbike. There is always another option and it won’t be that inconvenient (I manage). I’m not saying give up all risks, just the biggest one that effects foreigners – motorbikes.
I’ve seen several cases where young (30 ish) adults have come in absolutely buggered by accidents and the parents (or friends) have to mortgage the house to get them back home for long-term care. Ugly. We get about 17 motorcycle accident victims a week. It just isn’t worth it.

It’s good to hear you are getting mended up! I’d let the ear hang there for a while longer and see what happens…. time has a way of mending things in a fashion that predates… well… time.
Maybe just some fluid build up that will drain in the due course of…. well… time.
