The end of a long day

sleepy-799997

I started early today, drinking with several friends. I ended up going out to a club around 10 p.m. with a half dozen people even though I was way to tired. Couldn’t stay awake, and headed outside to grab a cab home at 11.

I snoozed in the cab, and woke up just in time to hop out in front of my building.

I was wearing a t-shirt that says in Thai script “Cheu arai krab?” (What’s your name?)

As I hopped out of the cab I heard a voice sing out, “Cheu arai krab?” which is the point of the tee shirt.

I looked up and saw (very ugly) ladyboy in front of me… but he/she has been around for a long time so I know his/her voice. It wasn’t the ladyboy.

I heard it again… “Cheu arai Krab?”

I shifted my gaze to the left. A truly lovely (bar) girl sitting at a table of four people… legs crossed, smiling at me.

Oh. the Bangkok conundrum… I have to work in the morning and I’m exhausted. All I wanna do is sleep, and it doesn’t matter how lovely this girl is, I can’t do much more than just go collapse in bed.

But she sings out once more “Cheu Arai Krab?”

So I speak to her in Thai, telling her my name. Ask hers. Dow… it means “star” and it is one of my favorite Thai names. I tell her that she has a pretty name, but I have to go sleep.

She’s now holding my hand. She wants me to sit with her at the table. The farang at the table chimes in with encouragement. I explain that I am simply wasted and have to sleep.

Dow hands me her mobile phone and asks me to type in my number. Okay. I do it.

“I’ll call you tomorrow, okay?” says Dow, and something about the way she says it makes me believe that she really will.

She’s a bar girl doing her job, but that’s one of the things I love about Bangkok… when there’s no reason to expect it a pretty girl hits on you.

You have bargirls between where the taxi drops you off and your front door? Very convenient.

Meant to send you a text, sorry, so hope this public message makes up for it.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEREWOLF!

Gmac: Three beer bars within 20 meters of my front door. I generally stay away from the girls in these bars, as I don’t think I need the headache of them seeing me come and go.

I got an SMS message today from a TG I know who was clearly unhappy with me. It said “Congratulation! U have new girlfriend. I hope u love her alot”

I called immediately and asked her what she was talking about. At first she simply said “I know already” and it took a while to convince her that I didn’t know what she was talking about.

Of course, she had seen me taking a bar girl into my room on Saturday night (or perhaps one of her friends had and told her). The distinction between a hooker and girlfriend didn’t seem worth debating, so I let it go.

I can imagine that it would be pretty bad to get hooked up with a girl who worked in one of the beer bars outside my front door who would be in a position to know everything I did, all the time. Probably make me suicidal.

that’s the trouble, when you hang around children they are usually prone to childish antics…2 years of thailand was about all i could stomach

And yet for all that you couldn’t stand living here, after leaving you seem personally compelled to read blogs about the country. Interesting.

WW, with the heading & pic & recent gym stuff with YP I thought that your tiredness may have been due to that. How did you feel the day after the first session? From how you described it – and the length – I would expect that you would’ve been pretty sore

Naki: I actually thought I’d feel pretty bad, but in fact it wasn’t too bad at all.

Penfold and I did about 2 hours on the weights, and I had another 30 minutes of cardio (cross trainer), but the work we did was very focused on chest arms and shoulder (basically from the inside of one elbow to the inside of the other).

Our gym session was on Thursday afternoon, and I hit the Big Mango party Thursday night feeling pretty strong.

I brought a bargirl home on Friday night and was okay.

Saturday the muscles we’d worked were very sore — especially my pectorals which were tender — but nobody was touching me there and I didn’t really have to use those muscles for anything so pretty innocuous.

I spent most of Saturday and Sunday ignoring my diet — drinking heavily and eating a lot of western food — cheese, meat, and tons of other high fat stuff.

I got back on the eating program yesterday (Monday) and YP and I hit the gym for the second round today. We spent a shade over two hours working on biceps, triceps, back and abdomen, plus my 30 minutes on the cross trainer.

I expect that this set of muscle groups will affect me more, but I’m feeling okay tonight.

At the moment we have an aggressive every-other-day schedule for my workouts (today, Thurs, Sat, Mon) plus we’ve discussed the possibility of doing Friday this week as well.

One reason is that after Monday the schedule gets a bit ugly for a week or two and he and I may not be able to get to train consistently for a couple weeks.

IN the past I normally did 1-hour sessions with my trainer; Pennie has me doing 2 hours, but somehow it feels okay. I think the main difference is that in the past my trainer usually had me doing very heavy weights for shorter reps, where YP focuses on good form and lots of reps.

By the time Monday night rolls around I may well be tired from the gym sessions, but on Sunday night past it was the product of being up all night Friday with the bar girl, then drinking for two solid days over the weekend.

Oh how I envy you ! I go to the Gym every day and feel great afterwards but living here in England there is not much chance of “special treats” at the weekend.
    Good luck to you

ww – apologize that the spelling errors on the shirt are causing you so much grief.

Thanks for the update on the gym stuff. Two hours doing weights does sound like a long time, but I can imagine that if you are enjoying it then it wouldn’t drag. Not going heavy & focusing instead on form & reps sounds like a good idea too.

I’ve just started with a personal trainer to help me get back into an exercise routine. I used to go regularly to the gym (30 mins cardio 30 mins weights) before I came to BKK, and since here had let things slip. Now with the trainer I’m doing 60 mins of cardio 3 times per week. Interestingly I haven’t dropped any weight – even though I’m eating sparingly and have been training for a month. The training is pretty intense too. I’m now going to try eating many small meals during the day to try this “speeding up metabolism” theory to try and get over this plateau.

Either that or I need to get out to the bars more….
