Monty Python Politics: The PAD conditions for the new government

Saturday, 13 December 2008 · 2 Comments

There is a very illuminating blog at the Bangkok Pundit website that shows more of the clownish and thuggish tactics of the PAD.

In most other countries in the world the leaders of this group would already be in jail and the balance of the members laughed at by the general public.

Here they are effectively molding government policy.

The only reason that the Democrats seem set to form the new government is that the PAD has orchestrated the downfall of the previous three governments.

The leaders of this group, as well as many of it’s members (”guards”) are simple criminals who are now engaging in terrorist tactics (seizing the aiports) to achieve their political aims.

They need to be stopped, and stopped hard, but unfortunately the amount of shit they’ve been able to get away with already shows that there is no willingness from the police, army or the palace to stop them from the path they are on.

They are destroying the current Thailand, and it seems that the Thailand they want to replace it with will be a throwback to the past.

Back to the future.

By the way, there is often a shrug of the shoulders and a “who cares?” attitude from readers of this and other websites when it comes to Thai politics.

I think the recent airport seizures are a good example of why some Bangkok-based bloggers write about the politics in Thailand. In very real ways, what goes on here politically can affect the lives of readers if they are visitors to the Kingdom.

Also, I presume that you read Thailand blogs because you have a genuine interest in Thailand, in whatever form that interest may take. If so, whether you are hoping for Thailand to advance or retreat in it’s development, it seems to me that the political situation would be of interest to you.

    But that’s just me…

I love this stuff. It really opens up your eyes to what an ugly business politics is.
