I witnessed two scenes this weekend that struck me as worthy of being put on film as “Bangkok experiences”. The first would have been a few seconds in a television commercial, the second, a few minutes in a Hollywood movie. One of the scenes was in Sukhumvit, where I have returned to live after a short 9-month absence. The other scene was in the Ratchada area, which I have recently abandoned to return to the comforts of ‘my’ Sukhumvit.

NOT NottheNation.com

is a great website; it is a satire of the Nation one of the English language daily newspapers here in Bangkok.
The spoofs, satires and other comedy on the NottheNation website are often comic genius.
The article pasted below reads very much like a NottheNation.com article, but it is no sendup. It is an actual news story taken from the Bangkok Post wesbite.

Monty Python Politics: Letting the PAD close the airports
Friday, 28 November 2008 · 11 Comments
By the time I finish writing this post, things may have changed, but the situation at the two Bangkok airports has been pretty stagnant for the past three days.

Koh Samet and My Favorite Go Go Dancer

Getting there is easy. A one-way bus ticket from Ekkamai Station is just over 160 baht, and it’s a 3 ½ hour ride to Bang Phe, then a wait of 20 minutes or so until you can hop a 50-baht ferry for a 35 minute ride out to the island.
It’s possible to get a speedboat for about 250 baht per person, and on my first trip to the island that’s exactly what I did. (more…)

Lending a helping hand

I got an email from a reader this week. He offered me some material for a blog. Well, it was largely in his own self-interest, but that’s okay.
Trouble is, the email came in two days ago, and I get the feeling the information might be time-sensitive. I won’t have the time to look at it all and deal with it for a while, so I thought I’d just reprint his email below and let anyone who is interested look at it all for themselves.

In my last blog (going to the cop shop) I described an altercation that took place on a Saturday night/Sunday morning at my apartment building.
