The headline across the top of today’s Bangkok Post — along with a couple of photos — was compelling.
“Chuwit’s Fists of Fury” was the banner headline, along with a picture of one of the candidates for the position of Mayor of Bangkok, Chuwit Kamolvisit.
It seems that K. Chuwit was interviewed on TV yesterday, and when the interview was finished, he was so angry at the interviewer that he beat him up.
The interviewer who was pummeled was Visarn Dilokwanich of Channel 3.
K. Chuwit’s comments on the matter go a long way towards clarifying how suitable he is to be the new mayor (the vote for mayor is scheduled for Sunday). Here are some excerpts from the Bangkok Post article:
“I lost my temper because he insulted my manliness. It’s too much to accept. I’m a person who doesn’t take abuse from anyone,” Mr Chuwit said angrily.
“However, I actually felt good after doing it,” he added.
“He talked to me without giving me any respect. A man like me can be killed, but can’t be insulted,” he said. “[If] you play hard with me, I’ll pay you back for what you did.”
Mr Chuwit, who made his fortune owning massage parlours, is running as an independent.
Former massage parlour owner, current mayorial candidate, and all around tough-guy K. Chuwit
“Don’t use this one incident as a standard to judge me,” he told a press conference.
“The governor’s job suits me the best. Why not?” he said. “I have run my businesses without asking for help from anyone.”
It doesn’t seem that “character issues” concern K. Chuwit in the slightest.

On a side note, due to the election on Sunday, no alcohol is to be served in Bangkok from 6 p.m. Saturday until sometime Sunday evening — either 6 p.m. or midnight depending on which reports you believe. Bar owners are reporting that they have been told that the police will enforce the ban. Many longtime residents know certain watering holes that typically find a way to serve anyway (beer in a paper cup…)

The Bangkok Pundit has a cute (and brief) followup to this story:
