The notable tip on divorcing your Farang husband comes near the end of the article with these words: “Don’t shoot him because you will end up paying a lot of money to the police and left you nothing.”
I don’t know whether to feel more or less comforted by the fact that this advice was offered in the newspaper.
HOW TO TELL YOUR FARANG HUSBAND YOU WANT A DIVORCE
Sometimes marriages between Thai women and their Farang husbands don‘t work out so well, when this happens, people consider getting a divorce. But how do you tell him that you want a divorce? The answers are only some ideas:
1. Find out why you want a divorce. Do you want a divorce because they don’t pay any attention to you anymore, because they are cheating on you, etc. If there is more than one reason, then be sure to list all of them
2. Practice explaining [ in English] to a friend acting as your spouse why you want a divorce. Prepare them first by letting your friend know that your thinking about a divorce and you’d like to practice out loud.
3. Ask for feedback from your friend, ask them if you did not include enough examples for why you want a divorce, or if your reason seems unreasonable, etc.
4. Write down what you think you should tell your spouse.
5. Tell your spouse what their problem is, divorce should be only a last resort, try to solve the problem first. Also ask if you have any problems as well and if they were considering divorce
6. If possible, formulate a plan to fix the problem or problems.
7. If you can’t formulate a plan to fix the problem or problems, because the problem or problems are too big, consider getting a marriage counselor [normally are your friends , who both of you respect] Remember again that divorce should only be a last resort.
8. If the marriage counselor[your friends] can’t solve the problem then simply tell your spouse that you want a divorce, say, “I want a divorce.”
9. Get a good divorce lawyer. Even though you couldn’t have a lasting relationship, you can still gain or lose some money, the house, or the kids.
10. If anything works to fix the problem, then don’t forget to remember to talk about your problems before they build up.
11. Think very hard about getting a divorce, it’s a big step.
12. Don’t be spiteful when telling your spouse, remember that you did love them at one time.
Tips:
a. Don’t run away, it won’t solve any problems.
b. Don’t bad-mouth him because it only makes things more difficult to solve.
c. Don’t talk to his best friend because he will make it worst.
d. Don’t shoot him because you will end up paying a lot of money to the police and left you nothing.
e. Don’t make him lose his face, just be extra nice but keep saying “ I want a divorce”
